I play the violin with Galway-based Spats Colombo.
The band was formed at the tale-end of 2013 by chief songwriter, Oxford born and bred Simon Noble. With Simon on vocals and guitar, he is joined by female singer Rhona Ní Chearbhaill (Galway native) and Simon’s sister Harriet Noble recently moved over from the UK. Donegal born musicians Caroline Doohan and Michael Carey add vocals and violin to the ensemble respectively. Bass guitarist Breandan Feeney from Spideál and Dublin-born drummer Colmán Mac Sealaigh complete the line-up. With all bringing their passion for folk, pop and indie-rock into rehearsals, Spats Columbo’s unique sound started to emerge with tender harmonies akin to Simon and Garfunkel and the happy energy of The Mamas and Papas being prevalent. The band could also be said to echo sounds of The Kinks and Supergrass.
